Ruth Davidson fits the role well, though I'm not sure whether better than her predecessor or not. Being affable and not eyeballs-out mad is as good as it gets.Alihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12543586983692447920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1638916042737526171.post-85003132578075515032016-03-07T10:46:40.556+00:002016-03-07T10:46:40.556+00:00Dufference level of candidate ( Edwin Moore), I li...Dufference level of candidate ( Edwin Moore), I like it.We have that problem in my neck of the woods such that I will abstain in the constituency vote. I've only ever voted SNP so a rather sad first abstain for me. I'll vote SNP in the second list category vote.

During the Indyref campaign I put on a tie and jacket and attended a local Tory public meeting starring Ruthie. Unimpressed, the "good egg" would simply not respond to any awkward questions from the sea of silver heads. The silver heads responded though, swivelling round, creaking, to measure up "Who asked that?".velofellohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17392600551312453152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1638916042737526171.post-27145492740869618002016-03-06T13:02:40.244+00:002016-03-06T13:02:40.244+00:00"Transitory". *Chuckle*."Transitory". *Chuckle*.Conan the Librarian™https://www.blogger.com/profile/01904339261121451779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1638916042737526171.post-68695917727522842292016-03-06T11:08:39.425+00:002016-03-06T11:08:39.425+00:00According to the recent spam mail I received in th...According to the recent spam mail I received in the post they are the 'Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party'.

A telling readjustment of their marketing if you ask me...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08723713771162081318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1638916042737526171.post-78688457533583022172016-03-06T09:01:48.587+00:002016-03-06T09:01:48.587+00:00The main problem RISE have is their campaign is es...The main problem RISE have is their campaign is essentially invisible. They have neither the membership or money of the Greens to buy a media presence or campaign effectively.

But one thing is in their favour, the pollsters do not ask about them by and large, so take their invisibility amongst the electorate with a grain of salt. I'm not saying they will surprise, only that a seat or two fro them would not surprise me.

I campaigned with RIC in the schemes of Dundee. There is a constituency for RISE there. The trick is to:

1. Identify and target them to use scarce resources effectively.

2. To lever them away from the SNP. I would cast the SNP as feart and far too cautious.

3. Persuade your constituency to vote. This is the critical one. Corbyn, Trump and RISE all have this problem. Not everyone is on facebook. The average age of their voters and members supposedly being in the 70's and creeping to 80 years. People who probably joined the party in the early 1960's.
So Davidson is out of place. One of a few youngish faces pulled out to prove they have young members too. A party that sold seven tickets to it's youth conference and had to cancel.
The Tories in Scotland depend on elderly Empire Loyalist, sectarian bigots, the privately educated children of the wealthy and those who think that voting Tory and hanging out at party meetings will gain them access to a network of wealth and priviledge.
Like Labour they are a symptom of a society with a demographic imbalance. Too many elderly people voting for a return to the 1960's or earlier in the case of the Tories. Cameron wants to go back to Edwardian England.
I just feel ashamed that I haven't done more to provide a better chance for the young people. Ruth Davidson's mob would rather cut the young's throats and drink their blood.Tamas Marcuishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07240661716287694320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1638916042737526171.post-78472300236151237522016-03-05T18:54:06.776+00:002016-03-05T18:54:06.776+00:00Love the image, reminds me tangentially that the e...
Love the image, reminds me tangentially that the earliest printed reference to haggis is an English recipe book which suggests 'Hacke alle togeder with gode persole [parsley]’, a recipe which also works for political parties perhaps.
You miss one interesting point about Ruth which is that she was very much Cameron’s preferred candidate; left to their own devices, the Scots Tories would have gone for Murdo or some backwoods pheasant plucker. Cameron's intervention reminds us that the Tories have a history of making surprise choices for leaders.

I think you are also hard on the Tory lack of talent among their Holyrood candidaes. Not that you are necessarily wrong perhaps, but is the dufference level of candidate (new or returning) really worse than that of the SNP or Labour?

You are right about RISE of course, they have some good people such as Leckie but It’s hard to see any of them scrape in. One thing this election could well finish off is the delusion that the Scottish electorate have been hungering for True Left politics; Corbyn is a dead corbie round Dugdale's neck, and if Sheridan is true to his word we will never see him stand again - thank goodness for that small mercy.Edwin Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05317173893948248954noreply@blogger.com
